Ti6242 Titanium Bar
Ti6242 titanium bar has higher strength up to 540℃, which is higher thanTi-811 alloy.  Its specific strength is superior to that of Ti-2.3Al-11Sn-5Zr-1Mo-0.2Si alloy, while its creep property is better than that of Ti-811 alloy and comparable to that of Ti-2.3Al-11Sn-5Zr-1Mo-0.2Si alloy.  The machining and welding properties of the alloy are good.  The semi-finished products are plate, bar, forgings, ring parts and castings, etc.  It is mainly used in the manufacture of compressor casings and aircraft skins for aeroengines. The maximum long-term operating temperature is 500℃. 

Ti 6242 Application And Special Requirement

Ti 6242 titanium rod has been used in the manufacture of aeroengine compressor cases in China.  The alloy still has good thermal stability when exposed to heat at 540 ℃ for 1000h.  Castings of class ⅰ and ⅱ used in aerospace industry must be treated by hot isostatic pressing, while castings for general purposes only need annealing treatment.

Ti-6242 is also a material with great potential for space applications. Its temperature range covers low temperatures up to 500°C. In these extreme cases, TI-6242 can cope with different temperature variations. 

Performance Comparison Of Gr5 And Ti6242
Gr5 titanium alloy is a Ti-Al-V series α-β titanium alloy developed in 1954 in the United States. It contains 6% α-stable element Al and 4% β-stable element V.  The main characteristics of Gr5 titanium alloy are excellent comprehensive performance and good process characteristics, the service temperature is 350 ℃.  The alloy is so widely used that the yield is almost half of the total output of titanium alloys. 

Ti6242 is a near-α-type titanium alloy with nominal composition of Ti-6Al-2Sn-4ZR-2Mo-0.1SI. 

It contains α-stable elements Al, neutral elements Sn and Zr, isocrystalline β-stable elements Mo and eutectic β-stable elements Si.  Mo can improve the tensile strength and stability at room temperature and high temperature.  The combined action of Al, Sn and Zr can maintain the high temperature strength of the creep for a long time.  The addition of Si can cause the precipitation of dispersion phase of silicide, which is beneficial to improve the creep strength at high temperature.  The alloy also has very high strength at 540 ℃, and the maximum long-term working is 500 ℃. 

Ti 6242 Casting Property
The alloy contains AI and Sn, has good casting properties, easy to form, no hot crack tendency.  It can be used to cast special-shaped castings of different shapes, sizes and wall thicknesses in the mold suitable for casting titanium alloy. 

Ti 6242 Welding Property
Ti 6242 alloy can be used for spot welding, seam welding, argon tungsten arc welding and electron beam welding.  The joint strength coefficient can reach 100%, but the plasticity of welding area is not high. 

Ti 6242 Corrosioin Resistance
TA19 alloy has good corrosion resistance.  However, it is also sensitive to thermo salt stress corrosion, and has the delayed fracture of crack test in saline solution at room temperature.  This alloy is more sensitive to salt stress corrosion than Ti-2.3Al-11Sn-5Zr-1Mo-0.2Si alloy, but less sensitive than Gr5 and Ti-811 alloy.
